Player Questions & Developer Answers

Just what you've been waiting for all week!

Q. I'm considering deleting and rerolling one of my characters, but would like to keep the name. The name is duplicated on the cluster, but not on the server. If I delete the character, can I still create a new character with the same name?

A. Says the Bearded Wonder: If the name is already taken on the cluster elsewhere, you cannot get it on another character, even if you delete a character that had that name previously as a duplicate. We designed it this way to avoid having too many duplicated names on a cluster. It would have been really time consuming, difficult, and unfair to change existing duplicated character names, and so this was the only way we were able to curb the instance of duped names. So if you really really like your name and you know someone else on the cluster has it, you should definitely not delete that character.

Q. I have a question regarding salvaging dragon weapon drops. Originally, when I salvaged the Glimmer Wrath Great Hammer, I received 98 arcanite bars. But today, when I salvaged one, I received 15. Is this a bug?

A. The bug was that the item used to yield too many bars. The item's original salvage value was too high and was therefore recently fixed. The value you see now is the correct value.

Q. I just noticed that when I use the Ring of Azure /use2 charge (10% secondary magic resist) I need to wait 5 minutes to be able to use another charge. Is this right?

A. Yes, this is by design. There a number of items in game that when you use them, will prevent you from using other item's charges within a given time. These timers are implemented based on the relative power/utility of the charge setting the timer. Typically higher end items and charges will be set up this way to temper their use. Thanks to the Bearded Wonder for clearing that up!

Q. I've been anxiously awaiting seeing what's in store for my class with the new style changes going in recently, but then I read that 1.91 is pretty much finished on Pendragon. So, are the style changes done, or are there going to be more in 1.92?

A. Yes, there will be more style changes in 1.92. Just as an aside, 1.91 is scheduled to go live later this month, barring any unforeseen obstacles. And everyone knows that unforeseen obstacles do indeed rear their ugly heads sometimes!

Q. A while ago a collected a large amount of Mythirians of various types from PvEing and buying off the Market Explorer. I put some of them on my personal merchant, some in my house vault and a couple on my characters. After reaching CL10 with my Infiltrator, I decided to swap one of my Mythirians for one that was on my merchant, however, when I went to place my old mythirian back into the Personal Merchant, I got the message . I tried this with a few more of my Mythirians and then realized I was in trouble because I couldn't put the Mythirians back into my merchant or house vault, so now I have a personal vault full of Mythirians. Is this a bug or has something been changed within the game so I may no longer switch Mythirians between characters or sell my Mythirians? Please help!

A. This isn't a bug, but a part of the way these particular items were designed. The Bearded Wonder explains: Mythrians are bound to the character when they are equipped. This attunes them to the character, making them of no use to other players, thus they cannot be sold at that point. So make sure you really want that Mythirian before you equip it, because it's a commitment for life!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Thank you to everyone who sent in feedback about Daniel's Quest! We've gotten lots of great feedback to send to Daniel. If you missed the original announcement, the quest is called 'Saving Zarees' and is available from the NPC 'Tym' in the starting cities. The quest will be live indefinitely, so go check it out, enjoy it, and feel free to send in more feedback. Our own Joanne is in the process of compiling it right now and sending it to Daniel, our Honorary Quest Dev.

Due to an unforeseen issue, the ability to load a chamber while moving has been disabled. This note appeared in the Pendragon hot fix notes for Warlocks yesterday, and I have to admit I was pretty bummed to see it. I know this was something Warlocks were really excited about. Unfortunately the original change introduced a bug which kept the animation continually casting. I watched over a dev's shoulder and it was really, really annoying. We're trying to figure out what's making it do that so we can fix it, but for now we have to shut the feature off.

Thanks to everyone who sent in stories for the next issue of the Dark Age of Camelot Newsletter. We received plenty of fantastic tales, and the choice was difficult. In the end we chose a chilling tale filled with action and suspense. Enthralled? You will be! If you're not signed up for the Newsletter yet, go here.

Phoenix Resurrected on Gareth Server (Albion) is hosting a memorial event for their fallen Guild Master this Sunday, November 11, at 8:00 PM EST. They ask all who wish to attend to please meet inside Castle Sauvage and try to arrive early. A very eloquent player recently said to me: A game is a game...but the people who play it are real and real connections get made, real friendships begin and sadly, real people [sometimes] get taken away. DAoC has always been strong in community spirit and this situation is precisely the sort of thing that measures far and away above most others in importance for that community, both for those that knew this player and those who didn't. Our thoughts are with Phoenix Resurrected during this difficult time.

And last but certainly not least, I have clustering news! The plan right now is to begin clustering on Wednesday, November 14 at 8:00 AM EST. We still have some testing to do, but the clustering of Tintagel with Killibury is currently a tentative GO! I'll have more details next week, so keep an eye on the Herald for updates. I'm really sorry for the delay and lack of news regarding the cluster so far, I know that many of you were going insane with anticipation of this event. At least now I can say with some certainty yes, it is really, really happening.

And on that happy note, I'm out. They're calling for rain mixed with snow tonight here in blustery Northern Virginia, and I am now officially on a Hunt for Mittens. Have a fantastic weekend everyone. Be safe, and I'll see you on the flip side!
