Grab Bag - December 1, 2006

Player Questions & Developer Answers

Good evening, everyone.

Will there be any issues with Camelot if I switch to the Vista OS?

We’re working with Microsoft to make sure there aren’t any. We have not yet declared Vista an approved OS, though, because we’re not done testing. Stay tuned.

We were discussing the effects of bonuses and resists when it comes to crowd control. I know bonuses to skill lines like music, or pacification, don’t affect crowd control skills, but do resists affect durations? Or are they purely for outright resist purposes?

From the Redheaded StepChild: “Spell resists never affect the outright resist rate of a spell. That is determined by several variables, including but not limited to spell level, player level and target level. What spell resists modify is the value of a spell; for example, decreasing the damage of a DD spell. In the case of CC spells, resists modify the duration of the spell.”

WRU /charcopy?

It is currently not working. I am told we will have it back early next week. Sorry for the inconvenience, guys.

Could you change the personal house recall stone to a hearth bind recall stone?

This is a very popular request, that hasn’t been done for several technical reasons.

Sending the request to the grab bag (the Questions category) doesn’t actually help much, though. I know there isn’t really a good category for this, though, so I will somewhat arbitrarily declare it an Economy issue. Please send your requests for this feature to that category, so we can start tracking it. Thanks in advance.

Will my appeal be abandoned if I'm not there when a CSR gets to it?

Not at all. If you are talking about a quest appeal, and it is possible to fix your problem while you are offline (because you gave us all the information we needed), we may just fix you and send you a message when you get back in. Other kinds of appeals, we don’t actually see unless you’re logged in – and as I explained in a ridiculously long post earlier, the older the appeal, the more likely you are to jump to the head of the line when you do log in.

Determination on the Herald is listed as 4 4 12 17 28, for a total of 65.

It delves at 55.

Which is wrong?

The Herald. Which is now fixed, thanks to you.

If I delete all my characters off of Merlin/Hibernia can I then make Merlin/Midgard characters on that server?

Yes, but be warned – if you change your mind, we may not be able to restore the deleted characters. So be really, really sure.

I was wondering about artifacts for maulers. I see that they can get the three staves for artifact weapons, which makes sense, but I was wondering about those who use fist wraps. What artifact weapons will they be allowed to use?

From our item guru: “Snakecharmers weapon is currently the only fist wrap artifact available.”

The Mythical Slot stuff on the Herald (http://www.camelotherald.com/section.php?id=40) seems off.

It is, sorry – sometimes, things can change pretty quickly in testing, and not all the documentation makes it around. Here’s the real scoop, and we will update the Herald ASAP.

“There are three tiers of mythical slot items. They do not have any special names to separate them, only the requirement to equip them.

“Tier 1 stuff drops from low level mobs and Tier 1 relic encounters. CL6 is required to equip these items.

“Tier 2 from mid-level monsters and Tier 2 relic encounters. CL8 is required to equip these items.

“Tier 3 from high level and Tier 3 relic encounters. CL10 required to equip these.

“Now, within each tier are three power levels. These are described as Lesser, Average and Greater. Lesser drops from common mobs, Average from “endcap” mobs, which are named mobs usually found at dead ends in the Labyrinth. Greater level items drop *only* from relic encounters.”

Ton of stuff tonight:

This survey is from a college student in Switzerland, doing a very scholarly paper on several aspects of the MMO experience. It took fifteen minutes for me to complete the survey, and I went and got coffee in the middle. The English version is phrased a little strangely at times (I can’t speak to the German version, of course), but I really enjoyed filling it out. Some of the questions made me think about things that I hadn’t considered in years. Go, help the man out. Surveys are no good without a statistically significant number of responses.

We are having some issues with the Herald display right now – for example, the Herald said we had a high of 3,800 logged in on Tuesday evening, even though more than three times that many were playing. Also, the Herald sometimes says the servers have players, when we’re actually down. Sorry about this; the issue is that the fellow who fixes this is also working on lag reduction measures. Priorities, and all that. Now that the expansion is launched, he’ll be back to working on these other problems. He's also the character copier fixer upper. He REALLY needs a minion.

All of the people who responded to Come Back To Camelot, Part Doh have been flagged. I replied with a form letter if I received your email. Sorry about that; there were a few hundred to reply to, so lovingly handcrafted emails would have taken me years. Your ten free days start from the moment you log in. You can start those free days any time up until early Monday morning, EST. Go, have fun, we missed you. If you did NOT send me your account name, I am sorry, but the campaign is closed. We run it a few times a year, though, so please keep an eye on the Herald.

Akatsuki players! Your server is open, but not yet clustered with your future home, Devon. Appeals are currently being integrated, and we will be able to start taking your appeals in the next few days.

Devon players, y’all please get ready to welcome our old friends no earlier than December 11th, but no later than the end of that week.

Thanks for all the fish, everyone, I'll catch you on the flip side.
