Being the sacred relic of Hibernia’s King, Lug’s Spear of Lightning, was quite sought after this weekend. After an absence of some weeks it was returned to the shrine Saturday morning by the Hero Ruxxn only to get heisted by Albion forces again on Sunday night when Earthmover and Selinea carried it to their frontiers. But the Albion joy didn’t lasted long – a few hours later the relic was again stolen. This time a Skald named Bamsenxx was the one to carry the relic to Midgard where it is now stored in Bledmeer Faste.

When the Battle Herald joined the action on Sunday afternoon, he once again encountered KaptKent leading The Scarlet Knights and their comrades through Albion frontiers, pillaging and raiding. The first tower raid attempt which our Battle Herald witnessed stalled when a handful of casters from Albion managed to defend the rooftop. They were soon overwhelmed, though, while Midgard invaders continued to lay waste to the lands of Albion.

What will the next days bring? Where is the leader to claim back Hibernia’s relics?

What a weekend! The Battle Herald had serious issues to follow all the movement of the relics – Thor’s Hammer was carried home to Midgard by Clumsy; Lug’s Spear of Lightning was brought back to Hibernia by Lovein; the Cauldron of Dagda was re-conquered and placed in Hibernia’s Relic temple by Tagss; Merlin’s Staff was stolen by Midgard, but intercepted by Hibernia; and Excalibur’s Scabbard was removed from Albion relic temple by Hibernia,

then intercepted by Albion and finally brought to Midgard. Albion’s Frontier was burning the whole weekend and the situation we saw on Friday has changed dramatically.

Late Sunday evening our Battle Herald was able to witness the last efforts of a huge Albion army which was finally able to reclaim all keeps and towers in their frontiers. Lead by Rescu, these men and women of Albion had the challenging task to defend the last relic in possession of Albion – the Horn of Valhalla – and also to defeat the last invaders in their lands; as soon as they succeeded they restocked their siege equipment and took the fight back to Midgard and Hibernia.

Will the relics find a short period of peace or is the next raid already been planned?

    Created by

    |

    Greetings,

Starting Thursday the 19th through Monday the 23rd we will be running a weekend battleground event. This event will feature a battleground switch whereas players level 45-50 will be allowed to teleport to, and participate in, the Thidranki battleground while players level 20-24 will be allowed to teleport to, and participate in, the Cathal Valley battleground.

The Battleground quests in the affected battlegrounds will be turned off, and Buff NPC’s will be provided for level 45-50 players. The monsters, keep guards and realm guards have all been changed to the appropriate level for this battleground change. In addition, players in all battlegrounds will receive RP’s and BP’s for the duration of this event.

Have fun taking in the scenery change, but remember there is always someone out there looking for a fight.

Battle Herald: News From The Frontlines VI

Merciless fights in confined space build the theme of last weekend. Although Hibernia was under attack and lost the power relic for a short while, the major confrontations between the realms focused in a completely different area – on the battlefield of Thidranki.

Over the weekend the two battlefields Thidranki and Cathal Valley had been switched. While the young fighters of the levels 20 to 24 were going to Cathal Valley to struggle against the enemies of their realm, the more experienced warriors from level 45 to 50 were offered the opportunity to travel to Thindranki to participate in the battles.

And this option has been used extensively. From Thursday to today, Thidranki Faste was the center of almost permanent brawl, and the three bridges were the main routes for the attack or the quickest way to throw back the enemies to their portal keep. Other groups took advantage of the rivers and hills to flank unaware enemies or to fall them in the back.

What were your experiences in the battles? Do claustrophobia and blood thirst summarize the return to Thidranki?

Did Merlin feel the tremors in his eternal sleep? Forces from Albion, Hibernia and Midgard filled the air with battle screams fighting over his staff during the last days. Stolen by Hibernia some days ago and kept in one of their keeps, Merlin’s Staff was pilfered by Midgard raiders Sunday morning when Hestina carried it into the snowy lands. Hibernia took the challenge and reversely invaded Midgard, but although Lovein already held the staff in his hands, he was killed and Midgard managed to secure the relic… for about 11 hours. Then Albion forces lead by Rescu reclaimed what is supposed to be rightfully theirs; they carried Merlin’s Staff back to its shrine in Snowdonia … for about 11 hours until Hibernia was on the move again and closed the circle by bringing the relic back to Dun Ailinne.

While Albion slowly re-conquered their frontiers, the Battle Herald ventured into the labyrinth hidden under the island of Agramon. The many winding corridors make it hard to get and hard to keep an overview of. They are ideal for surprise attacks and unexpected encounters when scouting fails. Unimpressed by the events on the surface, groups of Albion, Hibernia and Midgard milled around those depths, using the obelisks to find enemies. The battle still continues to rage back and forth; no side can really claim ownership of these old structures …

    We will see you there!

    Hello World

It’s been a while since I spoke with you, and I wanted to let you in on a little known secret.  Dark Age of Camelot is turning 10 this year! OK, so not such a well kept secret, but what we are doing for the 10th anniversary is. To start things off, we are celebrating 10 years of DAoC for the full year, not just a few days in October.  We have a lot of things planned, so we will be able to continuously introduce new stuff over the months to come. While we want to keep some surprises, I am happy to announce four of the big ticket items.

First, remember all those new people we brought onto the team a few months back? Well we have been putting them to work creating what is best described as a New User Journey. This new content is focused around new and returning players who may not know or remember all the intricacies that make DAoC great.  The plan is to create hubs which will teach players important lessons about Dark Age of Camelot gameplay while getting them ready for RvR warfare.  Some of the lessons we have planned are: Assisting, Pets, Crowd Control, Peeling, Stealth, Guard and Protect, Templating, and much, much more. The goal is to get new players up to speed and out into the fight as quickly as possible while giving them the tools (both in terms of itemization and basic knowledge) to be viable. This new approach to DAoC content will not make someone an overnight RvR master, but it will definitely bring able bodied players out into RvR.  So what does this mean for you?  Well if you are one of those people who hasn’t played the game in a long time, getting back into it will be easier than ever. If you are already out there spilling blood on the battlefield, then be prepared to see more compatriots and more enemies out on the field contributing to the war effort. The New User Journey should be out within the next few patches and once it is, I am sure everyone will enjoy the results.

Second, you are now on our new website. This is just the first step in improving the way we communicate with our playerbase.  The new website is easier to navigate, and chock full of articles and information about the game. You may notice that some of the content is from our old Dark Age of Camelot site; over the coming months we will continue to bring that content over to the new format, but we wanted to get the new look and functionality out in front of you sooner rather than later.

Third, we are working on a wiki site for DAoC that you the players can help to maintain and develop. In the next few months, we will be asking for volunteers and holding contests in the hope that we can blow the doors of this site and make it the place to get all of your DAoC data. If the website is the first step in improving communication, the wiki is the second.  But don’t worry, there are even more steps we are working on.  Remember, we have a whole year to celebrate, not just the month of October.
And as if three things weren’t enough, here’s a fourth:  We are going to be allowing transfers from the Glamorgan cluster to Ywain.  It’s been a long time coming, and yes we did hear your pleas and we received your feedback.  We are looking into the last of the technical requirements right now and I will be able to give you the exact date within the next few weeks. In the mean time, we have prepared this Transfer FAQ to help you with the initial questions.

So that’s what I’ve come here to talk about for now, but rest assured, that there is a whole lot more on our “to-do” list.  So keep your eyes peeled, and you ears to the ground, because there will be additional information about our big year coming your way!

    Until then,

    See you in the Frontiers!

Battle Herald: News From The Frontlines VIII

Have you ever had problems with unwanted neighbors? On Sunday the Battle Herald witnessed the DAoC way of dealing with them. Following the Albion army lead by Gerreniel on their quest to throw all invaders out of Albion while keeping hold of the two stolen Strength relics in Caer Hurbury and Caer Renaris, the Battle Herald was lead to Caer Berksted Outpost which was occupied by Hibernia and already under siege. When the fighters from Albion arrived at the scene, the door was already smashed open and the Hibernians had retreated to the higher floors. Still, the Albion army wasn’t able to enter the ground floor, because that was occupied by several raiders from Midgard who defended the entrance as well as the stairs.

As the legitimate landlords, the Albion forces decided they would rather destroy the building that let it stay in the hands of their enemies. And after being hit with the combined power of two trebuchets fired at it, the outpost tower crumbled to dust – uniting the troops of Albion, Hibernia and Midgard on ground level for the final stand. The Albion army that had surrounded the tower had no major problems in winning the fight against the squatters who were disoriented from the fall.

Probably not the normal way, but it solved the problem, right?
