    Hello World

It’s been a while since I spoke with you, and I wanted to let you in on a little known secret.  Dark Age of Camelot is turning 10 this year! OK, so not such a well kept secret, but what we are doing for the 10th anniversary is. To start things off, we are celebrating 10 years of DAoC for the full year, not just a few days in October.  We have a lot of things planned, so we will be able to continuously introduce new stuff over the months to come. While we want to keep some surprises, I am happy to announce four of the big ticket items.

First, remember all those new people we brought onto the team a few months back? Well we have been putting them to work creating what is best described as a New User Journey. This new content is focused around new and returning players who may not know or remember all the intricacies that make DAoC great.  The plan is to create hubs which will teach players important lessons about Dark Age of Camelot gameplay while getting them ready for RvR warfare.  Some of the lessons we have planned are: Assisting, Pets, Crowd Control, Peeling, Stealth, Guard and Protect, Templating, and much, much more. The goal is to get new players up to speed and out into the fight as quickly as possible while giving them the tools (both in terms of itemization and basic knowledge) to be viable. This new approach to DAoC content will not make someone an overnight RvR master, but it will definitely bring able bodied players out into RvR.  So what does this mean for you?  Well if you are one of those people who hasn’t played the game in a long time, getting back into it will be easier than ever. If you are already out there spilling blood on the battlefield, then be prepared to see more compatriots and more enemies out on the field contributing to the war effort. The New User Journey should be out within the next few patches and once it is, I am sure everyone will enjoy the results.

Second, you are now on our new website. This is just the first step in improving the way we communicate with our playerbase.  The new website is easier to navigate, and chock full of articles and information about the game. You may notice that some of the content is from our old Dark Age of Camelot site; over the coming months we will continue to bring that content over to the new format, but we wanted to get the new look and functionality out in front of you sooner rather than later.

Third, we are working on a wiki site for DAoC that you the players can help to maintain and develop. In the next few months, we will be asking for volunteers and holding contests in the hope that we can blow the doors of this site and make it the place to get all of your DAoC data. If the website is the first step in improving communication, the wiki is the second.  But don’t worry, there are even more steps we are working on.  Remember, we have a whole year to celebrate, not just the month of October.
And as if three things weren’t enough, here’s a fourth:  We are going to be allowing transfers from the Glamorgan cluster to Ywain.  It’s been a long time coming, and yes we did hear your pleas and we received your feedback.  We are looking into the last of the technical requirements right now and I will be able to give you the exact date within the next few weeks. In the mean time, we have prepared this Transfer FAQ to help you with the initial questions.

So that’s what I’ve come here to talk about for now, but rest assured, that there is a whole lot more on our “to-do” list.  So keep your eyes peeled, and you ears to the ground, because there will be additional information about our big year coming your way!

    Until then,

    See you in the Frontiers!

Battle Herald: News From The Frontlines VIII

    Created by

    |

Have you ever had problems with unwanted neighbors? On Sunday the Battle Herald witnessed the DAoC way of dealing with them. Following the Albion army lead by Gerreniel on their quest to throw all invaders out of Albion while keeping hold of the two stolen Strength relics in Caer Hurbury and Caer Renaris, the Battle Herald was lead to Caer Berksted Outpost which was occupied by Hibernia and already under siege. When the fighters from Albion arrived at the scene, the door was already smashed open and the Hibernians had retreated to the higher floors. Still, the Albion army wasn’t able to enter the ground floor, because that was occupied by several raiders from Midgard who defended the entrance as well as the stairs.

As the legitimate landlords, the Albion forces decided they would rather destroy the building that let it stay in the hands of their enemies. And after being hit with the combined power of two trebuchets fired at it, the outpost tower crumbled to dust – uniting the troops of Albion, Hibernia and Midgard on ground level for the final stand. The Albion army that had surrounded the tower had no major problems in winning the fight against the squatters who were disoriented from the fall.

Probably not the normal way, but it solved the problem, right?

Free Transfers from Glamorgan – 06/22

    Created by

    |

    Greetings,

We will enable Free Character Transfers from Glamorgan cluster (Avalon, Dartmoor, Logres, Lyonesse and Stonehenge) to Ywain Cluster from Wednesday, 06/22 on. The ‘/freexfer’ command will become available for all characters on the cluster from the afternoon EDT on (evening CEST).

We invite you to read our Free Character Transfer Guide carefully, especially if you are a guild leader. There is no difference between any of the servers in the Ywain cluster if you simply wish to play with your friends and guild. However, if you are looking to transfer your houses and wish to ensure that you and all of your friends end up in the same neighborhood, you should all transfer to the same Ywain server. We recommend that you use the upcoming weekend to scout out the housing zones on the different Ywain servers to find a neighborhood that you might like and discuss with your friends and guildmates before transferring.

We’ll see you in the frontiers!

    Battle Herald is Watching You

    Created by

    |

If you follow us on Facebook you might have noticed reappearing News from the Frontlines. Over the last ten weeks the Battle Herald has posted reports like this on April 17th:

Again Albion’s frontiers were devastated by marauding hordes from Midgard and Hibernia. Hibernia established a beachhead around Caer Berkstead while Midgard temporarily dominated the west of the frontiers. Albion managed to hold onto Midgard’s strength relic but lost theirs to Midgard when the gate of Castle Excalibur was broke open Sunday afternoon and Enoch carried it away.

The Battle Herald could barely keep up with the action – Albion’s relic was gone when major Albion forces lead by Slapmefrist started to re-claim their frontier. The Battle Herald witnessed fights around Caer Erasleigh when Midgardian fighters following Grrball tried to keep hold of their beachhead.

After the situation changed around midnight and the Horn of Valhalla was stolen by Madesen and his men, our Herald had the chance to get a short statement from King Erik: ‘Damn Can-wearers think they can beat us? No bløødy way! By Odin we’ll grab ‘em by their [deleted by editorial] and then we’ll bash’em all day løng, yeah!’

The Battle Herald roams the frontiers once in a while and is always looking for conflicts. He won’t be able to be at all places at the same time, though, which means that his focus might be different than yours. We invite you to share your impression of an interesting raid or successful defense with us. To do so please go to the Feedback Form, select Battle Herald as category, and your story might be the next to be told on our website.

We are looking forward to hearing of your battle tales.

Transfer From Glamorgan Postponed For One Week

    Created by

    |

The free character transfers from Glamorgan to Ywain have to be postponed for a week.  The transfers will now be available starting Wednesday, 06/29/2011.

The reason for this delay is that we want to ensure the most pleasant and smooth transfer experience as possible. To guarantee this, we’ll be upgrading the hard drives on the Ywain server in a maintenance downtime on the 29th. We will also deploy patch 1.109b during this downtime. The free character transfers to Ywain will start right after the downtime. Please make sure that you have read our Transfer Guide.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

    Status of the Website

    Created by

    |

    Greetings,

Our new Dark Age of Camelot website has been live for a little over three weeks, and it’s time for its first update. We have received a lot of feedback and we are currently implementing some of your suggestions as well as fine tuning our concept. In the not so distant future (aka ‘soon ™’) you might notice changes like smaller banners, more consistent news blocks and others.

As you may have noticed, the old Herald was brought down before we were able to define and to migrate all of the content that is important to you. This change was due to site security reasons. Since then we have added some of the content that was regularly requested, like the Mount section which is in process of being re-established. We are also pleased to announce the opening of the Class Library section. This is a combination of the old Style and Spell Libraries reorganized into a more accessible format. While updating the styles, we were able to identify a display bug with the delves of several weapon styles. This bug will be fixed in 1.110, but the website has already been updated with all the correct information – it is more accurate than the game itself.

Last but not least, we have received a lot of questions about the Realmwar page; specifically the character, guild and housing search. To make them more stable and secure, we are in the process of rebuilding these pages from scratch. So please be patient with us and we will keep you updated about the process.

The website is constantly improving and we’ll continue to add new content in the weeks to come. If there is something you are still missing, please let us know via the Feedback Form.

    See you in the Frontiers!
