    King’s Tournament Leaderboard Correction Notice

    Created by

    |

Players, since this is our first King’s Tournament, we expect there will be a few kinks to work out. Here’s the first of hopefully few.

We’ve been tracking and checking the leaderboard numbers all day and we recently discovered a mistake in our script such that it considered RPs earned by some players yesterday as valid for the tournament. This isn’t fair and we’re going to correct the situation now.

To be clear: no data is changing; no earned RPs have been lost. We’re simply making a change to our tournament script to ensure that we exclude any RPs earned before 12:00 AM October 1, 2014 from consideration.

When we make the change, you’ll notice a big shift in the current King’s Tournament rankings on the next hourly update. This is expected and the new rankings will be correct and official.

    Picking Up The Torch

    Created by

    |

    Greetings friends,

I couldn’t be more excited about the future of Dark Age of Camelot! Talal has been a great ambassador of the game and a visionary leader. I only hope to partly fill his shoes and carry on the torch he has made so bright.

For those that don’t know, I’ve been the Lead Designer on the team for quite some time now and am intimately familiar with our current and future plans. Speaking of those plans, I’d like to outline the next patch cycle for you as well as the general focus and resources of the team for the foreseeable future.

Click the ‘More’ Link to continue!

    October 13th Anniversary Month
We will be doing some exciting things for Camelot’s 13th birthday:

    • A marketing campaign and Come Back to Camelot promotion to attract new and veteran players back to the game
    • New Race and Class pairings
    • A 13th Anniversary Housing Trophy
    • A surprise, never-before-done event with never-before-seen rewards

I’d love to spill the beans today, but the details of the surprise – and everything else will have to wait until next week!

    1.116 Patch and Schedule
With the added focus on the Anniversary, we’ve decided to extend the release of 1.116 to the end of November/early December time-frame. We’ve been hard at work on 1.116 for a month now but this extension will give us the time we need to launch a polished version and deliver on our very ambitious promises. Speaking of those promises…

    • Champion Level 15 is coming along well and features a new quest line to obtain it. You’ll also be able to earn it through normal means such as XP and RvR!
    • With CL15, we’ll also be doing some re-balancing of the existing Champion Level abilities and adding completely new ones!
    • New Champion Level 15 Weapons and Art are coming, and we think you’ll be pleased!
    • Darkness Falls is getting revamped! Bigger, better encounters with new rewards and updated loot.
    • A Casual Group Finder is being introduced to allow players that want to jump in and RvR a way to find a group very quickly – with just the press of a button!

These changes and more will be going into the 1.116 patch. As you can see, it’s quite a lot of content, so I hope you can understand why we’ll need just a bit more time to get it right.

    Future Plans
With 1.116, we’ll be introducing the first major “UX” (User Experience) feature in a long list of planned UX features that will help modernize Dark Age of Camelot.

The plan going forward is to introduce 1-2 of these features each patch while keeping a focus on updating existing content and introducing completely new quests, encounters, and loot! Tweaks to New Frontiers and a sprinkling of Class Balance changes can always be expected of course, but our focus is going to be updating and modernizing the user experience of Dark Age of Camelot for the foreseeable future.

A partial list of planned updates include:

    • Market Explorer Search Enhancements
    • A Map + Quest Journal combination and revamp
    • Tooltip Item Delves
    • Right-click to equip or swap inventory
    • Ability list management and Quickbar functionality
    • Guild and Social Management tools
    • In-game Mail

Again, there are many more user experience features we’re investigating and would love to hear your thoughts on the list above, as well as any other ideas you may have!

    Community Outreach
Carol Kenny, our Community Manager, has done a great job of re-invigorating our community and she is going to be stepping it up even more in the coming weeks and months! Here are some of the plans:

    • We will be working with our internal Knights of the Roundtable members to shift their focus towards more community engagement and assistance.
    • The Grab Bag is getting a make-over and when it’s back we think you’ll find it much more useful.
    • We are going to continue to create in-house “How-To” videos to help returning players get back on their feet.
    • We’ll start to leverage live player-streaming and player-made videos about the game. Stay tuned for more details on this if you are interested in participating!
    • Updates to the Herald with Archived Server character search, Realmwar updates, and Leaderboards!
    • Starting with 1.116 we’ll also be introducing a new FAQ in conjunction with the patch notes that addresses some of the “Why?” that goes along with the “What?” in the patch notes.

Thank you all for your love of and dedication to this game and the amazing community you’ve created around it. I plan to help foster and grow it for many years into the future!

    Passing The Torch

    Created by

    |

    Friends and Realm mates,

It’s a time of great change for Dark Age of Camelot. This era of new beginnings started with the transition of DAoC from Mythic to Broadsword. We saw more change when we, as Broadsword, invested time and energy into revitalizing Camelot, developing interesting new content, and adding new and updated elements to the game with the goal of reminding the world that there was never – and will never – be a finer PvP MMO than Dark Age of Camelot. The evolution continues!

Click the ‘More’ Link to read on!

Those familiar with the team here at Broadsword are aware that our passion and dedication to our games is boundless. We created this studio with very basic ingredients:  Experience, love for our products, and the willingness to do whatever it takes to serve our games and their communities. This leads me to the update that I have for you today.

Over the past few months, I have been transitioning my responsibilities here at Broadsword. Rather than serving at the helm of one particular game, my responsibility will be to act as advocate and to use my time and energy to focus on how Broadsword can have a bigger impact, provide more investment, and achieve greater success for multiple products.

So what does this mean for Camelot?  The answer is “great things!”  I will never cease to provide my energy and attention to Camelot’s success – I will simply be doing it from a different and exciting perspective. I announce this change with great confidence and with the deep relief of knowing that my colleague, fellow die-hard Camelot fan, and very dear friend John Thornhill will assume ownership of the day-to-day operations as Producer of Dark Age of Camelot.

Official announcements, press relations, and operation of the game going forward will be handled by John Thornhill. For his dedication to the product, his tireless work, acute vision, and for his new position – I know you will all join me in thanking and congratulating him!

John, my old friend – thank you for your years of faithful work as a fellow vision-holder, and congratulations on the next step in your journey with Dark Age of Camelot!

For my part – you the community, as well as the game itself will, as ever, have my love and support – and I will never stop serving and fighting for Dark Age of Camelot as long as there’s a single player out there.

I’ll be around – lurking and checking in, helping when and where I can, and fighting alongside you in the maelstrom of war.

    Faithfully yours,

    Talal Saad
    “Eldariian”

Hot Fix – Keep LoS Issues #2

    Created by

    |

    Greetings!

    • The Line of Sight and pet pathing around Caer Berkstead, Nottmoor Faste, and Dun Crimthainn should be much improved now. This means those pesky “cannot see target” messages should not be seen as much when attacking enemies or healing realmmates when inside these keeps!

Players should see these changes immediately without needing to re-patch or relog.

Hot Fix – Keep LoS Issues

    Created by

    |

Here are your piping-hot Hot Fix notes:

    • Line of Sight and pet pathing inside the Ruined Keeps should be much improved. This means those pesky “cannot see target” messages should not be seen as much when attacking enemies or healing realmmates when inside these keeps!
    • Some collision adjustments have been made to lower tier Keep models.
    • (Gaheris Only) Caer Benowyc, Bledmeer Faste, and Dun Crauchon are now in a Ruined Keep state on the Gaheris server. This means these keeps have perpetually-open outer and inner gates. The encounters on these keeps remain unchanged.

NOTE: With this fix, in order to login, players will need to run the patcher once to get the change; otherwise, an error will be seen when loading the game client.
