THE HERALD

  • Patch Notes

    Live Hot Fix Notes #2

    Created by

    |

Feedback on patch 1.124C has been rolling in and it’s been great to read all of your thoughts! With that in mind, here are a few notes for your perusal!

    Ruined Areas

    • Grouped characters that are within 3,500 in-game units of the center of the ruined areas at Folley Lake, The Trellebourg, and Moydruim Castle will have their Buggane’s Folly, Lone Wolf, and unlocked obelisk-teleport buffs forcibly removed.

      • Judging by the feedback we’ve received on these areas, they are clearly a big hit! Possibly too-big of a hit. This change is meant to alleviate and disincent some of the group-traffic in the areas but is NOT designed to eliminate it. These areas are still a part of the Frontiers and we do not intend to create any areas where only certain types of players or playstyles can venture. While we can encourage a certain type of play in some areas, the Frontiers are a sandbox for all playstyles and players. This change follows in that vein and is designed to encourage one type of play without also eliminating the other playstyles.
    • Minstrel pets should no longer stop for a split-second when casting the Song of Everlasting Fervor (celerity).

    A Dragon’s Curse

    Chapter 9

    • Loot chests from defeating each boss in A Dragon’s Curse campaign Chapter 9 instance will now disappear 60 seconds after spawning. Be sure to get your loot!
    • Loot chests should now always drop something in Chapter 9’s instance:

      • Some items from previous chapters, as well as Pure aurulite, have been given a small chance to drop.
      • Cracked aurulite has been added to the loot chests that will drop if no other item is received.
      • These additions do not affect the existing chance of getting your class’ set armor or the existing small chance at getting any class’ set armor.
    • Sleeves, Chest-pieces, and Leggings/Boots from Chapter 9’s instance that were missing armor procs now have them. Characters that do not see the procs when delving the items may need to zone or relog.

      • Procs are as follows:

        • 150 absorption ablative proc, 50% damage absorbed
        • 120 point heal proc
    • Several classes’ erroneous Set Bonus descriptions have been adjusted to reflect their actual ability upgrades.

      • Please note that the ability upgrades are meant to be useful, but not game-changing, and to work with most/all specializations within each class.

    Bug Fixes

    • A Dragon’s Curse Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 encounters in all realms should now award credit more reliably.
    • The Pure Aurulite reward for completing the Chapter 9 quests should be correctly awarded now.
    • Chapter 9’s Ingolf encounter should reset properly now.
    • Chapter 9’s Najah’s damage protection shatter should correctly trigger now.
    • Chapter 9’s Varshe should now correctly toggle between his modes with the correct visual cues.
    • The Undead NPC in Camelot now shows its pending quest step knot on [Curse] A Friendly Face.
    • Please note that we are still looking into issues with the [Daily Quest] The Solo Road quest credit. There seems to be a disrepancy between the solo kill stat and the solo kill credit from the quest that is unrelated to the region restrictions added to the quest. Given the fast action occuring at the ruined areas, this pre-existing issue is simply being noticed more often. Unfortunately, fixing this will require server downtime and so this fix likely won’t be until our next major version.
    • Please note that we are also still looking into several client-related crashes and will have fixes for these out as soon possible!

Two quick, but exciting notes for you today!

    • [Daily Quest] The Solo Road

      • Quest objectives changed as follows:

        • Earn 1 solo kills in the Ruined or Maze areas
        • Earn 5 solo kills anywhere in the Frontiers
      • This change will allow solo kills in the Ruined or Maze areas to count for both steps of the quest, so if fighting there, it will be possible to get just 5 total solo kills and complete the quest. This change should address some of the issues players were seeing with getting credit when on the 2nd step of the quest.
      • Players that already have the quest should be able to relog and the objectives will update in their journal to the new values and restrictions.
    • Crafted armors and weapons now have a recharge cost of 10g per charge.

      • This change will allow players to recharge crafted gear at Recharger NPCs.
      • Characters currently in-game may need to zone or relog to have their already-crafted gear update properly.
      • Crafted gear can still be recharged at no-cost by Alchemists.

Time to dive into another Grab Bag!

Heavy Tanks are up next in our 1v1 tournament this Sunday (Nov, 12th). Congrats to Axv (1st place) and Waltr (2nd place) for advancing through Light Tanks! Wondering what this is all about? Our tournament page has all the details, and you can sign up here for the remaining Heavy Tanks and Archers archetypes. Getting ever closer to that overall final!!

If you have any game related questions for our DAoC Devs, please send them in through our Grab Bag submission form. Please note this is for game questions, feedback should be sent in through our feedback form.

Clicky clicky on the more link for this weeks questions 🙂

What does the proc on the Enchanter Aurulite (Shrouded enchanted) do exactly? It states that “your pet gains new abilities”, but there is no information as to what exactly it does. Thank you.

Each of the following abilities are unlocked on the respective underhill servant for 30s when this proc goes off:

Underhill Stalker and Compatriot: Gains a snare style.
    Underhill Ally – Gains a defensive snare-proc.
Underhil Companion – Gains a cold damage snare/nuke.
    Underhill Zealot – No effect.

We’ll update the delve on this robe to clearly show these effects, thanks!

Will there ever be a time that you will add a DAoC message box (mailbox) or some type of box to leave short messages or trades to other players?

It’s still on our list! We have many other things that we’re working towards right now (more on that in a coming Producer’s Letter!) – but after those things? This is right near the top.

Why does the Spear follow-up style to Tracking Spear not exist? And if it’s never going to exist why not remove that it has a follow-up?

Poof! (Wyvern’s Talon now follows up Hawk’s Talon and Tracking Spear’s delve has been updated to reflect that, thanks!).

I was wondering if you could bring back assassin missions? They were a great thing to do when action slowed down or guild wasn’t online.

There are no plans to bring back assassin missions. We do, however, have some other RvR quests in the works that will similarly give players something to do while they wait around for their friends to log on.  Additionally – Doppelgangers are always available and also provide realm point bonuses for defeating them!

Why aren’t there anti-camping mechanics up in the new ruined areas?

This is something we want to wait on until we’ve had time to observe behavior in the areas for a few weeks (at least). Depending on how things go, we’d rather not add in hardcore anti-camping mechanics if they aren’t absolutely necessary because RvR should remain as unfettered as possible.

We are looking at several options though:

    • Actively prevent camping by casting direct damage or some other spell on characters that remain in the area for more than X seconds (potentially only grouped characters)
    • Strip the Buggane’s Folly buff (or prevent it from working) on players who enter the ruined areas
    • Add in objectives and incentives elsewhere that encourage groups and small-mans to venture to other areas

We’re also open to ideas from you all so please submit them via the feedback form if you have them!

Thanks for your questions everyone, enjoy the weekend! 🙂

    1.124C Live Client Hot Fix

    Created by

    |

The servers have only been up a short while and we’ve already witnessed some incredible action and fights in and around the ruined areas and the routes to and from them!

We’ve been keeping an eye on all of the issues reported and have a quick batch of fixes ready! Please note that players will need to relog to desktop and run the patcher to fix most of these!

    • Fix for the ‘warping’ movement of other clients’ characters.
    • Fix for some missing textures on certain Race/Gender/Hair combinations.
    • Dead characters should no longer be nearest-target-able and their names should appear with the correct color and at the correct height.
    • Stealthers can now stealth when the Lone Wolf buff is active.
    • Any characters experiencing a Lone Wolf buff that only lasts for a short, 60s duration when used should replace their Token of the Lone Wolf at the nearest Ruined area obelisk. Once replaced the buff will correctly refresh its duration every 60s.
    • The Lone Wolf buff now lasts through death. It still is removed on grouping, logout, or zoning.
    • The [Daily Quest] Solo Road Quest should be awarding players credit correctly now.
    • Necromancers should no longer lose health and receive a resist buff when casting their level baseline lifedrain spells.

    Friday Grab Bag – 11/03/2017

We’re back with another Grab Bag to end the week. As always, thanks for everyone for sending in your questions, keep ’em coming!

Our 1v1 tournament is back this Sunday (Nov, 5th) with the Hybrid archetype. Congrats to Goinghurd (1st place) and Evoenia (2nd place) for advancing from the Casters round!  Wondering what this is all about? Our tournament page has all the details, and you can sign up here for all remaining archetypes.

If you have any game related questions for our DAOC Devs, please send them in through our Grab Bag submission form. Please note this is for game questions, feedback should be sent in through our feedback form.

Continue reading below for this weeks questions 🙂

Hi, I been trying to get back into DAOC knowledge and for my melee class I have been told that RvR blocking % cap is at 60% yet in a Grab Bag August 1, 2008 it says block % cap is 75% which one is correct? Or when did this change take place?

The shield block cap was lowered to 60% in patch 1.96. That cap only affects RvR block rates, not PvE, and does not include the Engage ability.

I want to ask about LEG weapon, it count on spell resists, so does spell piercing works with it too?

No. Spell piercing only works on casted or procced spells (i.e. melee style procs). Legendary weapons change the damage type of a melee hit, and therefore do not take into account spell piercing.

Are you planning any addition keep warfare changes or RvR improvements?

Yes! As stated in the 1.124 notes we would like to make keeps more difficult to take. Additionally we are looking at improving the new ruined areas added to the game in 1.123, alleviating some of the stealth-camping going on around objectives, as well as some improvements to the battleground experience!

What are the maximum caps for mythical stats like overcap strength, overcap resists, cc-reduction, power regen, mythical dps and others?

Here’s a shorthand list first with explanations following:

    Mythical stat caps – 52
    Mythical DPS – 10
Mythical Power, Health, Endurance Regens – 50
    Mythical Crowd Control – 50
    All others – uncapped

As the supply of items with the uncapped mythical bonuses is increased in-game, we’ll be applying caps to them as well. For now, there simply aren’t enough of those bonuses available where a cap is necessary.

Here’s some more detailed information on the mythical stat caps from the 1.118 patch notes:

    • Mythical item stat bonuses and their caps have been changed in the following way:

      • Mythical stat cap items previously introduced have allowed players to exceed the traditional item stat caps of 101. However, until now, these mythical stats caps were uncapped. With the coming Otherworlds campaign and more mythical stat cap availability, the overall stat cap from items is now set to 127 (or 75+52).
      • This stat cap of 127 can be reached either solely with mythical item stat caps (75+52=127) or in combination with traditional stat caps which still have the same +26 limit.

        • Traditional stat caps are still only able to go up to +26 stat cap at level 50.
        • Mythical stat caps are able to go up to +52 stat cap at level 50, but cannot exceed the new 127 stat cap threshold even if used in combination with traditional stat caps.

I recently transferred some characters from Mordred to Ywain but stats like kills and such didn’t come with, can these be returned or are they gone for good?

Characters that transferred over from Mordred should still have their kills, deathblows, and keep/tower capture stats. If for some reason they do not, Customer Support can restore these values so long as they can locate the original transferred character on Mordred. In some rare cases, this may not be possible so please be understanding.

    That’s it for this week!

Have a great weekend everyone 🙂

    Friday Grab Bag – 20/10/2017

TGIF! A went and windy Friday, but brightened up by another Grab Bag!

Congrats to Fantam (1st place) and Snowdog (2nd place) on giving it all in a round of great fights during our Assassin archetype 1v1 last weekend! All fights can be watched back on our YouTube channel here. Casters feature in our next 1v1 archetpye this coming Sunday (Oct 22nd, 3PM EST/9PM CET) and there is still time to signup, for Casters and all remaining Archetypes. Our tournament page has all the details, and you can sign up here!

Thanks to everyone for sending in your questions! If you have any game related questions for our DAOC Devs, please send them in through our Grab Bag submission form. Please note this is for game questions, feedback should be sent in through our feedback form.

    Click on for the questions!

When do you think we’ll see the new helms teased in the newsletter?

We’ll have some new cosmetic items launching within the next couple weeks! And remember: race, gender, and name respecs will be coming early next year with transfers coming later in the year. In the meantime, if you’re not signed up to our monthly newsletter, you can do so here.

What is the chance to hit a piece of armor?  My friend said it was 40% chest, 20% arms, 20% legs, 10% head, and 5% for boots/hands.  Can you comment on this?

Your friend is very close! Here are the chances for each armor slot to be hit by melee:

    Chest: 40%
    Legs: 25%
    Arms: 15%
    Head: 10%
    Feet: 5%
    Hands: 5%

I been taking some time to read and have found out that real-time chat.log has been disable. Is there a reason why? Can it be considered to be real-time once more? If you can have it real-time chat.log it would be great!’

Real time chat-logging is still enabled! It sounds like you may have accidentally disabled the chat logging feature though. The default key to toggle it on and off is CTRL+L. If you changed that, you can go to /keyboard and scroll down to the chat section to see the key used to toggle it.

I have several old artifacts from years back. I no longer use those since new items have changed the dynamics of templating my toons. How can we sell back our *Cloud Song, Goddess Necklace , Harpy’s Feather Cloak and so on. Several items are taking up room in my personal vault and those won’t allow you to put in a regular vault.

Once you have earned or purchased artifacts, they can easily be re-obtained from the Artifact Replacement NPC in the Hall of Heroes at no charge to you. Given that, if you do not wish to use them any time soon and want to remove them from your inventory, the best course of action is to destroy them (Shift+D by default).

I understand the reasoning on only allowing one char per day for the king but if you could extend this to maybe 3 it’d allow more toons to get the rewards, or increase the number of weapons that drop each run?

We will look at increasing the amount of rewards each run-through grants, thanks for the feedback!

Can you give us an idea on what we can expect with 1.125 and what’s coming next?

We’ll have a Producer’s Letter coming out in the coming weeks that will announce our upcoming plans, features, and some additional news!

    Oohhh, exciting!

‘Til next time, see you in the frontiers 🙂

Halloween Event 2017: Trick or Treat

    Created by

    |

October is not just our favorite month because of the Anniversary, it’s also Halloween! And that means haunted cities, candy and costumes, pumpkin patches in the Frontiers, and the return of the Mournful King instance!

Festivities begin today, October 17th and will conclude on Monday, November 6th.

    • Level 50 players should visit the ghostly queen, Lenore, in each realm’s capital city to receive the new quest ‘A Hallowed Lost’.

      • Visit the pumpkin patches in the frontier to find the buttertoe candy pieces Lenore needs and get some exciting new Trick or Treat costumes for your realmmates!

        • Only the pumpkin patches in Ellan Vannin, Pennine Mountains, Jamtland Mountains, and Breifine drop the five buttertoe candy pieces she needs.

          • You’ll want to get this year’s Ghostly Harvest quest to help guide you to the pumpkin patches!
          • Defeat the hallowed ghost, mummy, night bat, walking dead, or gooey slime at the pumpkin patches to get the candy pieces.
          • Different patches have different candy pieces available.
        • Trick or Treat potions can be used on your realm-mates to give them randomized costumes!

          • These potions will be usable in RvR for the three days surrounding and including Halloween!
      • Earn a new friend for your efforts!
      • Please note that this quest is only able to be completed once per character, including characters that completed it in previous years.
    • The instance dungeon, the Castle of the Mournful King, awaits those willing to brave its powerful ruler’s fury!

      • Level 50 players should speak with Lenore to teleport to the instance.
      • Earn armor and weapons with stats you’ve seen before – but with different skins!
      • Draughts of Supremacy and Otherworldly Helms also have a chance to drop!
      • This instance is meant to be extremely challenging and is therefore entirely optional and not required to complete the new quest.
      • This instance can only be completed once per day, per character.
    • Lenore can be found in the following locations within the capital cities:

      • Camelot: The Church of Albion
      • Jordheim: The Temple of the Aesir
      • Tir na Nog: Alainn Cuir’s courtyard

    • The Ghostly Harvest Quest offers players level 45 and up a dangerous adventure in the frontiers. Speak with John Tobin on the Cotswold Bridge, Foa Muldisson outside the Jordheim North Gates, or Nera by the road in Mag Mell to begin the quest. (Note: Players who completed this quest last year will now be offered it again.)
    • Treat sellers have been spotted selling sugary confections inside Meath, Erikstaad, and Caerwent.
    • The consignment merchants would like to show you their Halloween spirit! Pick up the merchant and place it back down on your house porch and he will change into a Halloween outfit for you!
    • Be aware adventurers! Ghosts haunt the streets of your capital cities as the pumpkin moon rises! Ghosts have also been spotted in Mag Mell, Aegirhamn, and Campacorentin Station.
    • The horses you once rode have joined the spirit realm. (This affects stable and merchant horses only – not player controlled horses.)
    • Something strange has happened to all of the puppies.
    • The pumpkins have been carved into jack o’ lanterns!
    • A trio of crazy old women have been spotted selling costume potions inside Camelot, Jordheim, and Tir na Nog.

      • The costume potions last 15 minutes each and come in a variety of flavors.
      • The costume potions work best if you remove your helm and armor.
      • You cannot digest another costume potion if you are transformed into any of the monster forms.
      • The costume potions’ magics are short-lived and the potions will be useless after the festivities end so don’t horde them.
      • Some of the costume potions allow you to take the form of the enemy, so don’t be scared if you see some in your capital city or housing zones, it’s just your realm mates playing dress up!
      • The costumes and potions only work while you are in the capital cities or housing zones. You cannot use them outside of these zones and if you leave the zone while in costume, you will lose the effect.
      • As always, the days before, during, and after Halloween these potions can be used in RvR (With exception to pixies and ghosts potions, which are not usable in the frontiers ever)
    • NOTE: Players will need to logout and re-run the patcher in order to see the pumpkin moon, loot bags, and pumpkin patches
