Fan Fiction

Mummz,

Again the world has turned me on her shoulders and I wish your steadfast heart and stout limbs were here to hold me steady, to center my wandering youth and dallying fancies. May this, my brief letter, do in your stead to root me in my past and beckon me where I should find true paths yet tread.

I've been having flashes of something that comes and goes, not visual nor emotional, but awakening, briefly yet deeply within my trollself. I have yet to find the source of; be it my companions or the strange lands we find our feet on. Irrespective, it is rooted to the now, the plane of being we of our number find ourselves on, together. And I, as may be appropriate, sheltering with the healers among us and in solidarity, for knowledge, and something more calling yet undiscovered.

It began again with Master Hamis. Wanting our parties assistance to Master Rarold at the Outpost, we circled once the still ringed world of small space. Rarold not to be found the healers consulted journals. Our Frostalf healer, ever quick of tongue, first to reply. Speak with Garrisa, crafty one having constructed portals to chapters yet untold. She will send us hither, through space and fog unknown, yet proceeding on again as one.

I flashed again just now Mummz, but need to finish my note to you here. Master Rarold was pretty close to where we were ported to by Garrisa. He wanted us to observe three spies, to simply observe these three observers. I wrote their names down twice in case I forgot, and well, I was kind of hoping I could remind our party of the next observer before our quick of wit and tongue healer did.

We first found Mummersoral, an ice-rock Jotun of smaller statue. He attacked our Frostalf Healer though our group meant only to observe him. She glared at me as I healed her with champion heals. I didn't know what to do then, not heal? this is all so new to me.

I swung my sword. Mummersoral, not even my own size, lay at my feet when next I blinked. Our healer turned away, but I don't think she frowned in doing so. I defended her! I did what she wanted, I think.

Searuntun was next. I don't know why I did it, but I didn't simply observe him, Mummz. Scold me if you will, but I think it was what our Frostalf healer wanted.

As I swung my tools of trade against his knee of epic size, I could hear a Frostalf's light laughter of purpose ring true behind me; laughter as I felt my blade swing faster in celeric understanding, swing through to leather boot-tip in surprise to all witnessed. A brief flash and I am once again your son, Mummz. We pressed on.

Viterse Furl was last on my list. A foe so small I did not want to charge first, fearing any charge would be construed less for bravery and more for weakness by the other healers in the backfield. I will relegate myself to two handed attacks if it makes my healer compatriots happy. The deed is done without my help.

Our Frostalf Healer frowns. After consulting her journal she has not gotten credit. For some reason of initiative unknown, I form a battlegroup. Soon realm mates distant join, slaying again this Furl. She smiles, having gotten credit by my side for work undone but problem solved.

On route back to Master Rarold our dwarf leader takes me aside. "Ask her her name, boy" he tells of me. I blink. He shoves me towards our Frostalf healer. Ever quick of wit and keen of presence, she senses my gaze and direction. Alvaas is her name.

And she is glad I have learned to use my weapon she adds in my awkward pause. Awkward in recapitulation afterward. This then seems a fitting end to chapter, as Rarold pats me on the back and promises more adventures in short suspense. For her, er this adventure! I wait in sure delight.
