Grab Bag - August 10, 2007

Player Questions & Developer Answers

This bag is my bag
From California
To New York I-bag

Okay, I have officially lost it. On with the Grab Bag!

Q. In last week's grab bag you spoke of the error message 'This client cannot update your Dark Age of Camelot installation because a large number of key files are missing or corrupted. Please re-install the game from your installation CD and try again.'

You only spoke of this in regards to the message being on the Pendragon test server. I reinstalled Trials of Atlantis just today and I am getting this error message while trying to update my live patcher as well as the test patcher.

A. The bad news: The ToA disks that you're installing from are out of date now and won't work anymore. The good news: You can download the 14 Day Free trial for free here: http://trial.darkageofcamelot.com and get the full version of ToA WITH the Catacombs engine. If you have an existing account, you won't get 14 days for free, but everyone can upgrade to Catacombs for free after you download the basic game files, which are included in the trial.

Q. Me and my friend were discussing a while back ago about our Reavers and he said that Thornweed Field got changed to Spirit in some patch, is this true or is it still essence damage?

A. It was delving incorrectly as Matter damage, and we changed the delve to Essence. The actual damage type has always been, and remains, Essence. You can read more in the 1.81 patch notes: http://www.camelotherald.com/news/news_article.php?storyid=2289

Q. My question is with all the new added dragon items and staffs there are a lot of items now with arcane siphon. If I have the new Staff of Ageless Power with a Greater Mytherian of Siphoning, and Jacinas Sash, do I get 3 chances at 10% to cast for no mana or 1 chance at 30% chance to cast for no mana or do they not work together?

A. Content Type Person Guy: They all stack together like any other bonus for a total possible Arcane Siphon bonus of 25%. (There is a cap at 25%)

Q. Heya, we were on Mid the other day doing a Levi/Kraken raid. After we killed them the first time we were wondering. After ToA was clustered and most of the spawn times were reduced, were the spawn times of Levi/Kraken reduced as well?

A. The Bearded Wonder says: It appears they were not lowered as part of the clustering work. I lowered the spawn times for both mobs.

See? Ask, and ye shall receive. Well, sometimes, anyway.

Q. With the new Theurgist pet cap, can we get some way to release pets? I'm thinking of something like animists' "release clump" spell.

A. The Redhead gives the solution: If you open up your pet window, target an elemental and hit the release button, it will kill it. This also works for animists. If you shift+click the release button, it will give you a button on your mouse pointer that you can put on your hotbar.

Q. In the last Grab Bag, someone mentioned he was kicked out of a Dragon BG because he used procs on the dragon - the REAL question is do certain procs cause him to spawn adds?

A. The Lord of the Flies: Procs will not and do not cause adds at the dragon or any other encounters. This is merely an old, old game rumor which is false. When a dragon calls for adds it's because they've selected one of their random attacks, which is not in response to, or because of, a proc..

Q. I was just wondering, I dyed my new Vampiir Dragonslayer weapon (which looks amazing by the way). After trying about 4 different dyes, I decided that I like the undyed version the best. The problem is, I have no clue how to undye it. I got my dyes from the merchant in the throne room, but he doesn't sell a bleach like the regular dye merchants. This also applies, I guess, to all dyeable weapons. My Champion Weapon is dyed as well. Is there any way to undye these weapons? If so, how?

A. The Bearded Wonder saves the day: For the DragonSlayer weapons, you could just exchange yours for a new version of the same weapon via the trade-in quest available.

You can also use a 'crafted weapon luster remover' to remove dyes from that type of item. You can obtain said item from your friendly neighborhood alchemist or check on the Marketplace explorer.

If you missed Joanne's Pendragon event last week, you were probably one of the very few who did. The turnout was close to 900 people, and I do believe that's a new record for Pendragon events! Don't worry though, you can live vicariously through the others who went, by clicking here.
