Bring a Friend Program

We're changing our Bring a Friend Program! Before, when you recommended three players to play Dark Age of Camelot, you would receive credit for one free month of game play. We're changing things up a bit. Now, y ou only need to refer one friend in order to get credit! But wait, you may say. Is this change retroactive? What if I already have a referral or two under my belt? Yes! The change is retroactive. All players who currently have a credit and an active account will receive a one month credit!

New Frontiers Changes

We've completely updated keeps, towers and bridges in 1.90. Updates include new layouts, pathing and Line of Sight. We have heard your feedback and taken all ladders out of keeps, towers, and bridges, replacing them with stairs and ramps. We've also added gorgeous optimized art and exciting new layouts!
Camelot Campaigns

With Labor Day Weekend come and gone, we say goodbye to our Camelot Campaign: A Dragon’s Revenge. The dynamic storyline brought with it a complete revamp of the epic dragon lairs and encounters, along with gorgeous new dragon models. As the Dragonsworn Army retreats, so does the call to duty and with it the rewards for service. Those noble adventurers who were able to complete the campaign we rewarded with all new Dragonsworn Weapons, Dragonsworn Armor, and other powerful treasure. Still, the remnants of this adventure linger and items can still be gained, though they’re much harder to come by now. To those of you who participated in this Campaign, we hope it was as exciting for you to play as it was for us to design!
Siege Towers

You asked for it, and we delivered. Introducing Siege Towers! When an enemy player enters the region around a keep, hookpoints along the walls and elbows will show up to indicate where a Siege Tower can be built. Enemy players can then interact with these hookpoints to build a Siege Tower, which can be used to breach the walls and enter the keep. Siege towers can be attacked and destroyed by defenders as well, and do not require a tradeskill to build.
Roleplay Flag

Now, wayward role players can identify each other throughout the world of Camelot. Spin your tales of woe and triumph, build your character's personality and storyline through role playing! Players can now use the /roleplay command to turn on a roleplay flag. When the flag is enabled, the player's name will be a different color and have (RP) on the end of it. A search for /who rp will identify those who have flagged themselves as role players.
Damage Over Time Spell Effects

Tired of waiting for your damage over time ticks to finally kill that annoying enemy? Then this patch is for you! We've upgraded DoT spells so they tick twice as fast as before, and have half the duration. This means that DoT spells will deliver the same amount of damage as before, in half the time. Dust off those robes and give these new, improved DoTs a tr
Siegecrafting

Diminutive siege is for wusses, it's time to get out the big guns. Well, okay, not guns, but palintones! Siegecrafting has been completely revamped and fleshed out into a full tradeskill. Recipes now range from 5 to 1000 skill, covering everything from weak, makeshift devices to fully fortified engines of war. This even includes a few infernal devices discovered by making use of demon seal fragments scattered across Agramon. Greek fire, diseased carcasses, thunder bolts, toxic bolts, and many other varied ammunition types can now be made for greater flexibility and power.
New Look for the Patcher

We've made over our patcher HTML-style. In August, we launched our new and improved patch client to live servers. This client provides new functionality such as links that provide immediate access to game news, patch notes, and important announcements as well as a fresh new look. Players will also find handy links to the Camelot Herald's knowledge base, customer support, feedback and more.
Ring Tones

Introducing Dark Age of Camelot Ring tones! We are now offering Ring tones of your favorite DAOC sounds and music - downloadable especially for your cell phone! Those familiar sounds can now be taken with you everywhere. Our Camelot Ring tones are free to download and easy to install. Would you dare use the grunting troll as your ring tone?

Veteran Rewards

Thanks for the memories... For all of our veterans, we're offering a reward to accounts that have been open for 5 year consecutively. These veterans will receive an outdoor trophy that corresponds to their realm, and an indoor wall crest. All you need to do to collect your reward is to speak to an NPC. Thanks to everyone who has been with us for 5 solid years!
Developer Diaries

James Casey

As a Senior Content Developer what are your primary responsibilities?

Man, that's a hard one. As a Senior Content Developer, I can wear a lot of hats, depending on what's going on. I help manage the production and implementation of content that gets put into the live game. This can range from new content like the Dragon Campaign to bug fixes or improvements to existing content. Along with managing or mentoring the other content developers during each milestone, I also have my own workload of content to develop and implement, so it can be hectic at times. Finally I facilitate communication between content development and our programming and art staffs so that we are working in synergy towards a common goal.

What was your "welcome to the game industry" moment when it hit you that you were really making games for a living?

I think it was when I was asked to write a 'developer diary' for the Camelot Newsletter. Okay, no really. That's a tough one, I'm not sure I've really had one of those, but I do have a nice story I can tell you that is close enough.

I went with a friend from work to Wendy's for lunch and we both happened to be wearing Mythic Entertainment branded shirts that day. While we were there, a group of young adults spotted our shirts and put two-and-two together and asked if we worked on Dark Age of Camelot. It was a bit odd to be called out for working at a game company while picking up fast food at lunch. They were an affable bunch with their questions, although when we got our food (to-go), one of the bunch began to follow us as we left the building, pleading for us to help him with a 'stuck' character. We told him how to contact customer support for his issue and then got in my car and got out of there. Hopefully, our crack CS team took care of the zealous teen and all ended well with our tale.

What is the status of the game? What are you currently working on?

As of this interview, we are rapidly putting the final touches to the 1.90 patch. This patch introduces our New Frontiers revamp. I'm currently working with code and art to make sure we get our systems and content as polished as we can prior to launch. Hopefully when this newsletter goes out, the patch will be out and people will be pleased with the changes.

What excites you the most about Dark Age of Camelot?

I think what excites me most about Dark Age of Camelot is the playerbase. The game has been out now for close to six years. In a growing industry, players have stayed loyal to the game and Dark Age of Camelot is still considered the best team-based player-versus-player MMO. I think a lot of what drives that is our players. I'm constantly delighted when I get a chance to meet and interact with our players and see how they enjoy the game. I've gone to a number of road trips, large and small, and the players are always passionate. When your customers are that excited about your product, it inspires you and I think that is what excites me most about Dark Age of Camelot; it can still excite players.

What other titles have you worked on in the past? In what capacity?

I started with Mythic as a part-time CSR, eventually quitting my day job and becoming a full-time CSR Team Lead. I really enjoyed the interaction with the customer that that job enabled. It was fulfilling to be able to directly help out our customers on a daily basis.

From there, I was tapped to work on Imperator as a content developer and soon after that as a content lead. The Imperator mythos that was being developed was a rich tapestry and the work was rewarding.

After Imperator, I came over to Camelot and have worked on a variety of projects that have put me in the role of Senior Content Developer. Ironically I've come kind of full circle, because I started off doing customer service and if you look at what I do now, I still do that in my current role, it's just an indirect role and the assistance is done in a fashion that addresses a lot more customers at one time via patches, hot-fixes, or new content.

What are your favorite video/computer games of all time? What games are you playing right now? What game should the reader be playing if he's not?

What's my favorite game(s) of all time? I'd probably have to go with Super Mario Kart or Super Bomberman for sheer replay value and mindless fun. Right now I'm playing Bioshock (360) and Metroid Prime 3 (Wii) and loving them both. As for what games should the reader be playing if they are not, I'd have to go with Carcassonne or Catan on the Xbox 360. Both are excellent examples of obscure cult board games that have been made into excellent online console games. As a backup suggestion, if you have a DS, pick up Puzzle Quest, it's an intriguing blend of a puzzle game and RPG.

What music are you listening to right now?

Right now?

If you want the literal answer and you count the music that plays in my head, then the specific answer is 'Happy Together' by the Turtles. Don't ask me why though.

If by 'Right now', you mean in general what do I normally listen to when I listen to music, which I assume you mean, then the answer is 'it varies'. I have over a thousand CDs at home and a 40gb IPod that is full of music and covers a wide range of genres, except country. I'm not a big country fan.

That being said, the CDs that I physically have at work to drown out background noise when I need them are as follows: Violent Femmes, "Violent Femmes"; Depeche Mode, "The Singles"; Weird Al, "Straight out of Lynwood", and the Beastie Boys, "The Sounds of Science".

Is there a recent movie you've seen or book/comic you read that you'd recommend to others?

I'll go with the comic category for my recommendations. It's a toss-up between Brian K. Vaughan's "Pride of Baghdad" and Steven Seagle's "It's a bird…" The former is a look through the eyes of four escaped lions from the Baghdad zoo that are freed during a battle in the early part of the Iraq war and how the devastation affects them. The latter is a very different take on a Superman story wherein the author gives us a glimpse into his life and how he approaches the task of relating to the American Icon in order to write a story about him. Both are excellent graphic novels and I highly recommend picking them up.

Anything else you want to add?

Not really. Haven't I rambled on enough?
